Tactile Defensiveness

Causes

The exact cause is not fully understook but it is a neurological condition, where ones mentallity is causing their nervous system to react.

    1. Genetic

Tends to run in famalies alongside autism, ADHD, or anxiety disorders.

    2. Development

Early trauma or neglect can cause it to develop.

    3. Co-occurring conditions

Occurs alongside autism, ADHD, anxiety disorders, OCD, and PTSD. Most common with autism and OCD.

Solutions

    1. Exposure

Exposure is one of the best but most painfull treatments. Repeated exposure to the sensatios that are not harmfull but distress the individual, This will eventaully build a tolerance and a desensitization to the trigger.

    2. Meditation

The main issue is a neurological one affecting the immune system. The best way you can control your immune system is through structured breathing and meditation, focusing on your issue and working to calm your immune system mentally.

Manifestations

Tactile defensiveness will look like a heightned, often distressing reaction to certain texture or physical sensations. This triggers a strong urge to immediately remove or "fix" the sensation. Examples of this can be grease on hands, certain fabrics or wet hands, then needing to wash/dry hands and change fabrics. These stimmulations can cause extreme discomfort and sometimes percieved as pain.
